Late breaking abstracts deadline: 31st August 2023 (Midnight BST)

This aspect of the congress is specifically designed to present the most relevant, exciting, unpublished and recent news regarding every aspect of neuromuscular disorders. Please note this is not the place for ‘late submitted abstracts’ though. Six of the successfully selected abstracts will be presented as short 10-minute in-person oral presentations plus 5 minutes Q&A on the last day of the Congress (Saturday 7th October 2023) and others may be displayed as an in-person traditional printed poster at the venue and an ePoster in a designated area of the virtual platform.

Submission Guidelines

• Abstracts can be submitted via the link sent via email to all registered delegates on 1st August and in registration confirmation emails for registrations after this date. Submissions accepted after 1st August 2023 and no later than 31st August 2023 (Midnight BST). No registration code is required.
• The presenting author must be registered for the congress in order to be able to submit an abstract. Only the presenting author can be the submitter of an abstract. An abstract submitted by someone who is not the presenter will be refused.
• Abstracts cannot be submitted by email, fax or hard copy.
• There is no fee to submit an abstract. A WMS Membership is not required to submit an abstract unless applying for a Fellowship.
• Within reason, there is no limit to the number of abstracts that can be submitted.
• Abstracts must be written in English.
• Maximum 250 words (excluding title and contact information on authors).
• There is a restriction of 20 co-authors for each abstract. If more co-authors have contributed, these should be summarily stated as Study Group and can later be displayed on the poster or appropriately be acknowledged during an oral.
• References and credits are not to be included in the abstract, nor subheadings (background, methods, results, etc specifically labelled) or keywords. Note that all subheadings in abstracts automatically will be removed by the Programme Committee.
• It is the author’s responsibility to submit a correct abstract; if accepted any errors in spelling, grammar, or scientific fact will be reproduced as typed by the author.
• The submitter will receive all correspondence concerning the abstract including acknowledgement of receipt of the submission and is responsible for informing co-authors of the status of the abstract.
• In cases where the abstract is NOT accepted, participants will be contacted promptly. Delegates will have the opportunity to attend the congress or cancel their registration.
• The Programme Committee reserves the right to shorten the abstract title to allow its publication in the Congress Programme and edit the content to remove acknowledgements and misspellings identified by the Programme Committee.
• To avoid repetition, it is WMS policy not to select late breaking abstracts from industry sponsors who also have a symposium on the same topic.
• The programme committee will reach a decision by 8th September 2023. The submitters of accepted abstracts will be notified by email soon afterwards.
• Accepted abstracts for ePoster presentation, once notified will need to upload their ePoster and optional video/audio file by 21st September 2023. If you cannot meet these deadline please don't submit a late breaking abstract. Please also see Poster presentation information and  Oral presentation information
• Accepted Late Breaking Abstracts will be displayed in an unindexed format as one long PDF file on the Neuromuscular Disorders Journal website in time for the WMS 2023 Congress.

Early career and first time prize nominations

Poster presenters who are eligible for the early career presenter and/or first time presenter (first time presenter anywhere including WMS) awards will have a label on the Poster/E-Poster accordingly. Applicants should be in training and not yet in a definite established position. The maximum age for applicants is 40 years old, indicated during abstract submission.

Encore/previously presented abstracts

WMS does not have a strict policy around encore/previously presented abstracts. In general presentations will be judged according to novelty and interest for the members of the society.

The Journal does not transfer copyright for standalone Abstracts (not a part of the article). They have a non-exclusive license to publish those Abstracts. So, the Author may present/submit their abstract at other conferences.

Publication

The full programme with accepted abstract titles will be available on the congress website in June. The late breaking abstracts will be added to the programme in September.

E-Posters will be available to view on the virtual platform and congress app from the congress opening on 3rd October 2023.

A digital abstract journal will be available to all congress registered delegates from the beginning of the congress. A link will be sent by email. The abstracts will also be available for WMS members and subscribers to the journal, via the journal, after the congress.
